SÃO PAULO, April 17, 2015—Evidências, a Kantar Health company, was awarded the 2014 Excellent Clinical Research Professional by the Brazilian Association of Clinical Research Organizations (ABRACRO). The team received the award for “Observational Studies in Public Health: Ethical Brazilian System Critical Assessment” on April 8.
Authored by Eimy Minowa, Guilherme Julian, Alexandra Piedade, Christiane Bueno and Luciana Clark, the paper analyzes the panorama of the ethical system in Brazil, assessing problems and offering possible solutions to make the process more agile and effective.
The award is an initiative from ABRACRO with the goal to stimulate clinical research, develop new methods and promote clinical research professionals while rewarding innovative studies in this area. ABRACRO represents clinical research organizations established in Brazil with the objective to contribute to and improve the regulatory clinical research processes in the country, thus encouraging and developing scientific activities in this area.
“Real-world studies are important to build evidence-based public health policies and support decision making on healthcare. However, bureaucracy and unclear pathways for ethics requirements for observational studies are great challenges in the development of these studies in Brazil,” Evidências President Otavio Clark said. “Evidências’ studies address the importance of observational studies, the difficulties concerning their ethical regulation and the need of specific recommendations to improve Brazilian ethics system in order to develop public health policies in Brazil.”
The studies will be presented at the upcoming meeting of the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR) May 16-20 in Philadelphia.
