Kantar Health Wins Research Award at ISPOR European Congress

Nov 16, 2012

Poster on Effects of Insulin Pump Therapy on Health Status Is Named Best Poster Presentation

NEW YORK, November 16, 2012—Kantar Health, a leading healthcare-focused global consultancy and marketing insights company, has won Best Poster Presentation at the recent ISPOR (International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research) 15th Annual European Congress.

“The effect of insulin pump therapy on health status among those with type 1 diabetes” was written by Marc Pignot, Ph.D., Senior Director, Medical Device & Diagnostics Research; Florian Eichmann, Ph.D., Senior Director, Treatment Value; and Marco DiBonaventura, Ph.D., Vice President, Health Outcomes.

“Type 1 diabetes patients who have better access to healthcare are more likely to use insulin pump therapy, but even after adjusting for these differences we found that insulin pump therapy has a significant positive effect on patients’ physical health,” Dr. Pignot said. “Patients using insulin pump therapy have less bodily pain, better physical function, and fewer physical and emotional limitations. These results suggest that insulin pump therapy may have better effectiveness than having multiple daily insulin injections.”

The International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR) is a nonprofit, international, educational and scientific organization that strives to increase the efficiency, effectiveness and fairness of healthcare resource use to improve health. Its 15th Annual European Congress took place earlier this month in Berlin.

About the National Health and Wellness Survey (NHWS)

The study’s results were drawn from the 2009, 2010 and 2011 U.S. NHWS, a nationally representative, self-administered survey conducted annually via the Internet. Topics covered include the health status, attitudes, behaviors and outcomes among adults 18 or older.

Kantar Health conducts NHWS annually in the U.S., Europe, Asia and Latin America. The survey is the largest self-reported database in the healthcare industry.
