Kantar Health Wins Research Award at ISPOR Asia-Pacific

Presentation on Effects of Neuropathic Pain on Outcomes among Japanese Patients Is Named Best Podium Presentation

NEW YORK, September 18, 2012—Kantar Health, a leading healthcare-focused global consultancy and marketing insights company, has won Best Podium Presentation at the recent ISPOR (International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research) 5th Asia-Pacific Conference.

The effect of neuropathic pain on health status, work productivity loss, and healthcare resource use in Japan” was presented by Andy Stankus, Senior Vice President, Asia-Pacific, Kantar Health, and was based on research conducted by Kantar Health in conjunction with the National Institute of Public Health in Saitama, Japan.

“Although Japanese patients with neuropathic pain don’t report a higher frequency of pain than patients with other types of pain, they are reporting that the severity of their pain is significantly greater,” Mr. Stankus says. “Japanese patients with neuropathic pain have significantly worse humanistic and economic outcomes, which suggest that improved management of neuropathic pain may have substantial health outcomes benefits. And, despite this burden, over a third of patients remain untreated, emphasizing the need for improved disease management.”

The International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR) is a nonprofit, international, educational and scientific organization that strives to increase the efficiency, effectiveness and fairness of healthcare resource use to improve health. Its 5th Asia-Pacific Conference took place earlier this month in Taipei.

About the National Health and Wellness Survey (NHWS)

The study’s results were drawn from the 2010 Japan NHWS, a nationally representative, self-administered survey conducted annually via the Internet. Topics covered include the health status, attitudes, behaviors and outcomes among adults 18 or older.

Kantar Health conducts NHWS annually in the US, Europe, Asia and Latin America. The survey is the largest self-reported database in the healthcare industry.
