The new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will come into force on 25 May 2018. GDPR aims to give citizens back control of their personal data and create a high, uniform level of data protection across the EU and globally fit for the digital era. For US entities that needs exchange data with EU, remotely access or collect EU data will also be in the scope.

The most notable headline for GDPR is its significantly larger fines, i.e., up to €20 million or 4% of global turnover, upon failure to comply. GDPR has 173 recitals (introductory statements) and 99 articles in 260 pages in the English version, and is available in the 24 official languages.

GDPR is important and imposes strict obligations on all companies in the scope and its supply chain. This presentation attempts to address how to be GDPR ready for healthcare researchers.
